Modern fuse boards with full RCD protection, fitted and certified
G&M Electrics replaces old fuse boards with modern consumer units across Merthyr Tydfil and South Wales, typically from £800 to £1,000. A new board adds RCD and surge protection, brings your installation up to current standards, and the power is usually off for no more than around three hours while we carry out the change.
Your consumer unit, or fuse board, is the heart of your electrical system. Older boards with rewireable fuses or a single RCD often trip for no clear reason and offer far less protection than a modern unit. Replacing it is one of the best value upgrades you can make to a home.
We fit modern consumer units with individual RCBO protection and surge protection where suitable, so a fault on one circuit no longer takes out the whole house and everyone is better protected against electric shock. Every change is a chance to check the wiring behind the board and put right anything that has been bothering you.
The work is usually completed in a single visit. Your power is off for around three hours while we carry out the change, then we test the full installation, hand you a certificate and talk you through what has been done.

Most home EV charger installations fall between £700 and £1,000 supplied and fitted. The final price depends on the charger you choose, where it is mounted and how far the cable has to run. We confirm a fixed price before starting.
Not always. If your existing board has spare capacity we can wire the charger straight in. If it does not, we fit a separate small consumer unit just for the charger, which avoids the cost of a full board upgrade.
