Consumer Unit Replacement in South Wales

The Brief

A homeowner in South Wales was suffering constant tripping and had been told by another electrician that the house needed a complete rewire. Before committing to that expense, they wanted a second opinion and a proper look at what was actually causing the problem.

What We Did

Our work included:

• Investigated the tripping: Rather than assume the worst, we tested the installation to find the real cause of the constant tripping.
• Replaced the ageing board: We removed the old fuse board and fitted a modern consumer unit with individual RCBO protection, so a fault on one circuit no longer takes out the whole house.
• Sorted the underlying fault: With the new board in and the installation tested, we identified and dealt with the fault that had been causing the trips.
• Tested, certified and handed over: The full installation was tested, the homeowner received a certificate, and we talked them through everything we had done.

The Result

The constant tripping was resolved and the home was brought up to current standards with full RCBO protection, all without the cost and upheaval of a complete rewire the homeowner had been quoted for. A modern, safe board and real peace of mind.

Job Duration: Completed in a single visit, with the power off for around three hours.
