The Brief

A homeowner in Merthyr Tydfil had just taken delivery of an electric car and wanted a reliable way to charge it at home rather than relying on public chargers. The main requirement was a tidy, safe installation that would not disturb the rest of the electrics in the house.

What We Did

Our work included:

• Checked the supply and board: We assessed the incoming supply and the existing consumer unit to work out the safest way to add the charger.
• Fitted a dedicated compact board: Rather than upgrade the whole consumer unit, we fitted a separate small board just for the charger, keeping the existing installation untouched and the cost down.
• Mounted the charge point: The wall-mounted unit was positioned for easy access, with the cable run kept neat and out of the way.
• Tested and registered: The circuit was fully tested, certified and registered, and the homeowner was shown how to use the charger.

The Result

A safe, reliable home charge point that the homeowner can use every night, installed without disturbing the rest of the house electrics. The dedicated board keeps everything properly protected, and the tidy finish means the charger looks like part of the property.
